Summary/Objective
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for design philosophy, providing resources, high level planning, removal of obstacles to progress, and aiding (when needed) with mechanical design, automation engineering, and continuous improvement for all Manufacturing Operations of First Co. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer serves in an advisory role, mentoring junior level engineers on design and implement of various cost savings projects. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is expected to be fully autonomous, needing minimal supervisor after initial project briefings and is expected to bring new improvement ideas to their MST Manager.
Job Description
- The Senior ME will partner with Operations Leadership to drive Operations by designing automation equipment, fixtures, robotic cells, and quality error proofing as well as leading/mentoring on the design of efficient work methods and practices that support the various phases of manufacturing at First Co.
- Responsible for leading and coordinating junior level Engineers in automation equipment, production efficiency projects, Kaizen/ Lean activities that improve quality, productivity, and safety.
- Will also identify process improvement opportunities that improve effectiveness and efficiency of our manufacturing operations.
- Mentor to junior engineers and interns: cost savings reporting, presentations to upper managements, ME/EE/CSE technical concepts, troubleshooting expertise, and four blocker updates.
- High level troubleshooting when junior engineers need support to follow up with junior engineers on final report after solution is implemented.
- Approach our manufacturing operations in the mindset of Kaizen (Continuous Improvement) and Hensei (thinking how a process or personal shortcomings can be improved). Carefully consider big decisions through consensus and implement rapidly once decided. Automation projects completed in less than 3 months.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Mechanical/Electrical engineering principles by designing, ordering, assembling, installing, testing, and iterating projects from beginning to completion given an open-ended problem.
- Evaluate current business processes and future needs in order to help design strategy and be an advocate for defined quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis techniques.
- Lean – Monitor, analyze and recommend ways to improve productivity, service, cost performance and waste reduction in all areas of operations.
Day to Day Task:
- Work on projects with teams implement and sustain automation projects, robotic cells, and productivity improvements.
- Ensure purchasing, design, and assembly of new equipment at the beginning phase of the project to ensure rapid deployment and implementation.
- Ability to multi-task and be flexible in leading workload changes with changing priorities and time restrictions.
- Ability to work in a fast pace environment with rapid deployment of projects.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
- Ability to use power tools for fabricating projects from scratch. This includes working with milling machines, welding equipment, lathes, and fabrication equipment.
- Use of PPE gear to protect from inherent dangers of a manufacturing environment.
- Utilize demonstrated proficiency in Solidworks CAD, Draftsight, MS Excel, Powerpoint, Word, Internet/Intranet and PC Applications, Skilled in computer modeling of operations.

- Ability on a consistent basis to read and interpret documents, computer monitors, and written/verbal instruction from customers, vendors and other team members.
- Ability to streamline timelines to rapidly deploy automation projects while adhering to all safety reequipments.

Required Education and Work Experience:
- Minimum 4-8 years’ experience in manufacturing engineering role.
- College Degree in an Engineering Discipline (i.e. Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical, etc.) Master’s Degree beneficial
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience leading Lean and/or Six Sigma (Continuous Improvement) projects.
